International Management Convention (ImCon)-2018 – The most intellectual conglomeration of Management Gurus, Research Scholars, Successful Industrialists and Management Students was organised from 11th to 13th January 2018, in Asian School of Business Management. ‘Creating Smart Organisations – Redefining Business’ was the Buzzword of this International Management Convention. Subthemes of the Convention were Smart HR, Smart Marketing, Smart Finance and Smart Technology etc. This three-day long event was inaugurated on the 12th January, 2018, by Prof. (Dr.) T. D. Kemparaju, Vice-Chancellor of Bengaluru North University, by lighting the ‘Lamp of Wisdom’. Prof. (Dr.) Kalyan Shankar Ray, Dean of ASBM gave a brief introduction of the invited Guests.
In his address to the gathering, Chief Guest Prof. (Dr.) Kemparaju said that, ‘Catch them young and watch them grow’ is the good-word for recruiting smart employees. ‘Change does not take place in isolation or vacuum, and it is a part of life. Quality is one of the visible aspects of today’s society and is the call of the day. We are not able to provide higher education to 25% of our population’, he added.
In his welcome speech, Prof. (Dr.) Biswajeet Pattanayak, President & Group Director of ASBM said that, the acronym SMART is the catchword of the present day Business Managers; and also, call of the day across the Globe. He said that, whether creating or sustaining an organisation needs smart way of Management. Organisation should be relevant irrespective of ages. Smartness should go hand-in-hand with values and principles.
The key Note Speaker Prof. (Dr.) Virginia (Ginny) Arthur, President, Metropolitan State University, USA said that, ‘both the Institutions ASBM and MSU, do have the same spirit of Entrepreneural Excellence’. She hinted upon the basic 9 Principles, followed by the smart organisations. She also praised the prolific efforts of Prof. (Dr.) Biswajeet Pattanayak in serving the society, by creating the future Business Leaders through ASBM.
The Guest of Honour, Prof. Soo Yeon Kim, Director, IYF & Professor, Mahanaim Cyber College, South Korea narrated the economic condition that existed in his country before World Wars. But, its people could change their country into a smart one, by the virtue of their strong determination. Another Guest of Honour, Prof. (Dr.) Asit Bhattacharya, University of Newcastle, Australia said, ‘Real smartness depends upon broad-mindedness’. One more Guest of Honour, Mr. B. C. Mohanty, Managing Director, Oriclean Pvt. Ltd., described his days of hardship as an entrepreneur; and how he could become successful. There were Technical Sessions on the subthemes; and deliberations were made by the experts and speakers.
Eminent speakers delivered talk in different technical sessions include Dr. Prabodh Kumar Mohanty, Director-HRD, OHPC Ltd., Mr. Hara Prasad Nayak, IRAS, Director-Finance, OPGC, Odisha and Prof. (Dr.) Kishore Kumar Das, Dean, School of Commerce, Ravenshaw University, Mr. Vivek Pattanayak, IAS (Retd.), Former Director, ICAO, Montreal, Canada and Prof. (Dr.) Shafali Nagpal Sharma, Director, UGC-Human Resource Development Centre, Bhagat Phool Singh Womens’ University, Sonepat, Haryana. Mr. M. Ramakrishna, Managing Director, Growthmode Consulting Ltd., Hyderabad, Mr. Jatindra Kanungo, Former Senior Specialist, Portfolio Management & Corporate Strategy, Cameco Corporation, Canada. Cash Awards of 200 US Dollars for the Best Faculty Research Paper and 100 US Dollars for the Best Student Paper were given to the winners, on this occasion. More than 60 Foreign Delegates had attended the Convention. A cultural Programme was also staged by the students of Mexico, Thailand, South Korea, USA and Netherlands. The Convention Coordinator Prof. M. N. Samantaray proposed the Vote of Thanks, to all present over there.
