ASBM University Hosts 3rd National Information System Symposium on Data Privacy and Usage

The ASBM School of Information System, ASBM University held its 3rd National Information System Symposium on the alarming topic of “Data Privacy and Usage: A Global Concern.”

The inaugural session was graced by Chief Guest Shri Surya Kumar Pattanayak, Director, Scientist-F, STPI-Bhubaneswar, along with Guest of Honour Shri Subrata Mohanty, Former Executive Director (Business Development), NALCO, Bhubaneswar, and Keynote Speaker Shri Niranjan Banarjee, Associate Vice President Analytics, Brandscapes Worldwide, Mumbai. The session was chaired by the Founder & President of ASBM University, Prof. Biswajeet Pattanayak.

Dr. Ricky Mohanty, Dean, School of Information System, ASBM University, introduced the guests. The Vice-Chancellor, ASBM University, Prof. Ranjan Kumar Bal, delivered the welcome address.

Shri Niranjan Banarjee, in his keynote address, provided critical insights into the complexities of data privacy in today’s digital landscape and emphasized the importance of proper data usage.

Guest of Honour, Shri Subrata Mohanty, in his address, emphasized the importance of robust data protection frameworks and the need for collaboration across sectors to uphold privacy rights. He further added how uncontrolled use of data can lead to a breach of national security.

The Chief Guest, Shri Surya Kumar Pattanayak, in his address, alerted on unauthorized data collection and emphasized the need for ethical AI and data practices.

The Founder & President of ASBM University, Prof. Biswajeet Pattanayak, delivered an impactful presidential address by reinforcing the urgent need to educate consumers about data privacy protection. He stated that robust global regulations for data protection are necessary to prevent the misuse of data without causing concern for consumers.

The inaugural session included a presentation of mementos and a vote of thanks by Dr. Avijit Mondal, Coordinator, National Information System Symposium.

The symposium resumed with a plenary session moderated by Shri Chandra Shekhar Chitrala, Founder and CEO of Alum Networks Pvt. Ltd. The panel featured esteemed industry leaders, including:

  • Shri Jenamani Ashis Ranjan Jena, Founder & CEO, Zenprateck India Pvt. Ltd, Bhubaneswar
  • Shri Bibekananda Jena, Founder & CEO, Altangle Research Pvt. Ltd, Bhubaneswar
  • Shri Tarun Panda, Senior Project Manager, Infosys Limited, Bhubaneswar

They engaged in a spirited panel discussion on data privacy strategies and best practices.

The session culminated in a question-and-answer segment, where attendees voiced their concerns and thoughts on future directions in data privacy. The discussion highlighted the constant threats posed by hackers, data thieves, and unethical businesses while emphasizing the importance of setting limits on sharing personal information. By being cautious about what we share and where we store our data, individuals can protect themselves from identity theft and fraud.

The symposium was well-received, highlighting ASBM University’s role as a leading platform for critical discussions on information systems in the modern world.

As the event wrapped up, the vote of thanks was delivered by Dr. Avijit Mondal, further emphasizing the collaborative spirit of the symposium.
