ASBM National Management Convention

The National Management Convention on the theme – ‘Rural India,: Stragegising Business’ was organised by Asian School of Business Management, Bhubaneswar on 20th & 21st  January 2017. The convention was inaugurated by the Chief Guest Shri S. N. Pasupalak, Vice Chancellor, Orissa University of Agriculture and Technology by lighting the ‘lamp of wisdom’. In his inaugural address he said that history of Indian business started with export of spices, jut followed by industrial evolution and globalization. He gave the idea about how village economy can help to strengthen to country economy and can help to grow its GDP. The villages of India is not only a vast untapped market to sell various product, it is also a place of manufacturing hub. He further said that rural India is now a one trillion dollar economy – equal to the economy of Canada or South Korea.

Prof. (Dr.) Biswajeet Pattanayak, Chairman NamCon’17 and Director ASBM delivered the welcome address and introduced the theme. He said that in today’s world is witness a vast disparity between the rich and poor which require a serious introspection. The future of India lies in village because more than 70% of our population lives in village. Affordability, accessibility and availability are very important factors for the development of rural India.

Prof S. N. Mohanty, Vice Chancellor, Central University of Orissa and Guest of Eminence said that the path shown by the father of our nation Mahatma Gandhi in the context of rural India is still relevant. Rural India is real India. So an effective rural management is the requirement of the day. He discussed about the potential of doing business in tribal areas and also focused on Raitu bazar in Andhra Pradesh.

17th edition ASBM Journal of Management was released in the occasion and dignitaries were felicitated by the Director ASBM.

Four technical sessions based on sub-theme ‘HR Strategy’, ‘Marketing Strategy’, ‘Financial Strategy’ and ‘Technological Strategy’. The eminent speakers in the technical sessions were Dr. Tattwamasi Paltasingh, Associate Professor, Sardar Patel Institute of Social Research, Ahmedabad Shri S.K. Sarangi, Chief Manager, Mahanadi Coalfields Limited, Shri. Parthasarathi Mishra, CHRM, Tata Steel Kalinganagar and Gopalpur Project, Dr. Sanjay Kumar Jena, Senior Regional Manager, Bharat Financial Inclusion Ltd. (SKS Microfinance), Bhubaneswar, Mr. Sanjay Kumar Chowdhury, Regional Head, Kutchina Kitchen Solutions, Shri Sunil Kumar Nayak, DGM, NABARD, Odisha, Shri P. R. Kanungo, Zonal Manager, Bank of India, Keonjhar, Shri Premananda Dash, DGM, Canara Bank, Bhubaneswar, Dr. Dibakar Swain, Chairman, Indian Institute of Materials Management presided, Dr. Pradipta Mohanty, Chairman, Surendra Agritech Pvt. Ltd (Udyan Fresh), Mr. Sekhar Murthy, President, IIC Academy, IIC Technologies. Delegates from different parts of India attended the sessions and presented papers on the relevant sub-themes to enrich the convention from various facets.

The  Convention was with valedictory session was concluded on the 21st January 2017 where Prof. Padmaja Mishra, Vice Chancellor, Rama Devi University as the chief guest opined that Business means some kind of value addition. Vastness, heterogeneous, diversified, fast growing are some of the characteristic of rural economy. To develop a strategy for rural economy we have to understand the existing structure. Capacity and demand creation is one of the biggest challenges in rural economy. Dr. M. Ramkrishna, Managing Director, Growthmode Consulting Ltd Guest of Eminence asserted that Rural India is an integral part of any strategy. He emphasized to develop cluster, skill development Programme for the cluster with global approach. Shri Rajendra Kumar Senapati, Director (HR), OPTCL, Guest of Eminence of the occasion said that lots of initiatives has been taken by the Government as well as Private bodies to raise of financial and non-financial support. Rural India is developing quickly.

A book titled ‘Rural India, Stragegising Business’ was released following by the felicitation of dignitaries.

In the inaugural session Prof. Kalyan Shankar Ray, Dean, ASBM & Vice-Chairman, Nam’Con, 2017, introduced the guests and Prof. Udayan Das, Coordinator of the Convention proposed vote of thanks while in the valedictory function, the introduction of the guests was given by Prof. Kalyan Shankar Ray, Dean, ASBM & Vice-Chairman, Nam’Con, 2017 and a vote of thanks proposed by Prof. Saikat Gochhait, Co-Coordinator, NamCon’17. Students of ASBM, Ms. Ankita Parida, Ms. Jharna Kishan and Ms. Sumana Bose anchored the events. The event was sponsored by NABARD, AIMS, Union Bank of India, Bank of India, Canara Bank & LIC.
