The Leading B-School, Asian School of Business Management, Bhubaneswar organized the 24th National Management Colloquium on the theme “Markethics – Concept to Practice” on 21st November 2015. The occasion was graced by Shri T. K. Sengupta, CGM, MMTC Limited as Chief Guest. In his address, he admired the academic quality maintained at ASBM. He appreciated “Phoenix”, the news letter of ASBM as well. Addressing the students, he talked about the importance of ethics in marketing by citing how marketing foster inequality and punishes unethical practices. He pointed out that greed of making money lead to unethical practices.
Prof. (Dr.) Biswajeet Pattanayak, Director, ASBM, stated the importance of ethics in marketing by citing examples of Maggi in his inaugural address. He said, “Marketing ethics deals with moral principles behind the operation and brings out social responsibility”. He emphasized that children & physically challenged people should not be portrayed in the advertisement. He stated that it is important for any organization to make honest claims and ethical reputation.
Dr. Asish Bannerjee, Professor, IIM Calcutta graced the occasion as Guest of Honour and Keynote Speaker. He pointed out that infotech cluster of industry are the most harmful thing to this generation. He shed light on product integrity and core ideology which is based on core value and core purpose. He inspired the student to question the existence of self.
Shri Shesashish Acharya, Chief Commercial Officer, Milk Mantra Dairy Pvt. Limited, join the event as Guest of Honour and explain how organization compromise the quality of product to win price war to sustain in market He insisted that it is necessary to be ethical to be successful in the long run.
The inaugural session was followed by two technical sessions with sub-themes “Ethics and Consumer Protection” and “Ethics and Profitability”. The technical sessions witnessed lively discussion by panel members Shri Manoj Kumar Satapathy, Business Head – Odisha, IFFCO Tokio General Insurance Ltd, Shri S.N. Mishra, Regional Manager – Marketing, ORIPLAST, Shri Chandan Singh, Manager, CEAT Limited, Shri Joseph Prakash, Director, Oriply, Shri Satish Mohanty, Assistant General Manager, Crompton Greaves Limited, and Shri Dinesh Mishra, Manager, Bajaj Electrical, as panel members.
Prof. Prakash Dash, Coordinator of the Colloquium, introduced the guests in the inaugural session and Prof. M. N. Samantaray, Co-Coordinator of the Colloquium, proposed vote of thanks at the end.
