Public Interest Litigation & Social Justice: Issues & Challenges
Public interest litigation (PIL) empowers individuals to fight for the public good in court, promoting social justice by giving a voice to the marginalized, holding authorities accountable, and enforcing constitutional rights. However, challenges like frivolous petitions, potential judicial overreach, and difficulties in accessibility and enforcement persist, requiring measures to ensure PIL remains a powerful tool for social good.
ASBM School of Law is organising the 3rd National Law Symposium on the topic “Public Interest Litigation & Social Justice: Issues & Challenges” on March 22, 2024.
The symposium will feature an inaugural session with esteemed judges, including Hon’ble Justice Ananga Kumar Pattnaik, Former Judge, Supreme Court of India, Hon’ble Justice Subhasis Talapatra, Former Chief Justice, High Court of Odisha, and Hon’ble Justice Bimal Prasad Das, Former Chief Justice, High Court of Odisha.
The afternoon will see a plenary session with prominent speakers such as Shri Sitanshu Mohan Dwivedi, Chairman, State Bar Council, Odisha, Shri Jameswar Mishra, Joint Director, Public Prosecution, Government of Odisha, Bhubaneswar, Prof. (Dr.) Sukanta Kumar Nanda, Professor Cum Principal, University Law College, Utkal University, Odisha, and Prof. Rangin Pallav Tripathy, Registrar, National Law University, Odisha.
